Charles retired after a forty two year career in the financial services industry. His last employment was Wachovia Corporation in Charlotte, where he worked for ten years as a Vice President and Compliance Manager. Prior to Wachovia, he was employed by a major southeastern bank for twenty six years in the Consumer & Mortgage Lending, Corporate Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management Divisions. His previous work experience includes retail sales, the automotive tire industry and home repair/improvement. He has over thirty years experience managing human resources in hiring, training, coaching, counseling, disciplining, and promoting.

He is a graduate of the University of South Alabama’s- Alabama Banking School, the National Compliance School and the National Graduate Compliance School at the University of Oklahoma. He completed work specific courses at Auburn University at Montgomery in Real Estate Principals, Practices and Appraisals; received advanced training in Management and Supervision through the American Institute of Banking; Effective Leadership training through Right Management, and training in Emergenetics Science of Success.

He received the Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation from the Institute of Certified Bankers in 1991, and the Certified Risk Professional (CRP) designation from Bankers Administrative Institute in 2001.

He is a former faculty member of the National Graduate School of Compliance Management at Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis and the University of Oklahoma. He served as a Director, Board Member and Instructor of the Regulatory Compliance Institute, and served as a member of several state compliance and credit committees, and national trade association advisory boards

He conducted training seminars, workshops, and schools for the Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi and Michigan State Banking Associations for the past fifteen years, and was a frequent speaker at the American Bankers Association’s and Bankers Administrative Institute’s national compliance and audit conferences and seminars.

He participated in the 2003 Chicago Federal Reserve Bank’s HMDA Conference, and served as an instructor for the San Francisco and Dallas Federal Reserve Bank’s CCRS Training Programs 2004 through 2007. As a subject matter expert, Charles has provided a banking compliance perspective to the General Accountability Office (GAO) and the Federal Reserve Board as they gather data to analyze and consider revisions to banking laws and regulations.

He served in the United States Air Force 1962-1968 receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon. He continues to support the Armed Forces through his membership in the American Legion.

He has written and published compliance articles in the Compliance Action Newsletter; the American Bankers Association’s Bank Compliance Magazine; the ABA Banking Journal; the South Carolina Palmetto Banker Magazine; the Sheshunoff Bank Operations & Technology Newsletter; the Alabama Banker Magazine; and the Alabama Bankers Compliance Corner.
