Who Has Your Ear?
24. And He said to them, "Take heed what you hear. With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given,” (Mark 4).
Who has your ear? There are many voices, discordant and shrill, siren
and smooth, crying out to be heard. And a good number of them cry out
as though they were the voice of God. But the Lord does not leave us to
guess which voice is His.
The Bible presents itself as the definitive voice of Almighty God:
1. "Woe to the rebellious children,'' says the Lord, "who take counsel, but not of Me, and who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; 8. Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and note it on a scroll, that it may be for time to come, forever and ever,'' (Isa. 30).
37. If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him
acknowledge that
the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord, (I
Cor. 14).
8. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel
to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
9. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any
other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed,
(Gal. 1).
16. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable
for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17. that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every
good work, (II Tim. 3).
3. Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints, (Jude).
Now, please note that, not only is the Bible the revealed word of God, but that it is written so that it will last forever among us, and that it is now complete. Therefore any change from what is written is to be rejected out of hand, even if commissioned by angel, apostle, or amazing wonderworker (I Cor. 4:6; Gal. 1:8; Matt. 24:24; II Thess. 2:9-12).
Many wonder how they might hear God through all the din of modern noise makers. The answer is found in Isaiah 34:16:
"Search from the book of the Lord, and read!”
23. "If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear,'' (Mark 4).
