Where Can I Go?

The psalmist in Psalm 139 is struck by how God is everywhere (v. 7-12). There was no place in all the earth he could go to escape God, if he wanted to.

I am struck by two passages that speak to God being at the far reaches of the very universe itself. In Deuteronomy 30:4 (Neh. 1:9) and in Mark 13:27, God speaks of gathering His people to Himself “though they be scattered to the farthest part of heaven.” What is especially interesting about those verses is that they speak to the possibility of our being in those places, yet God is there as well.
To the wicked such thoughts must be discomfiting. “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good,” (Pro. 15:3).

But to the righteous there are very few blessings greater than this. “When I awake, I am still with you,” (Psalm 139:18b).
May the presence of God always comfort and encourage you.

“Am I a God near at hand, says the Lord, and not a God afar off?
“Can anyone hide himself in secret places so I shall not see him?” says the Lord.
“Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord. (Jeremiah 23:23, 24)
